A man from Madera, California, was killed in a motorcycle accident on March
22, according to local news reports. Authorities say that the victim was
struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck while he was driving west on Yosemite
Avenue in Madera. It appears that the victim struck the side of that vehicle
when the truck failed to yield the right of way while making a left-hand
turn. The victim suffered
catastrophic injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
Local residents say that the intersection at which the motorcycle accident
occurred is known for its poor design. One area business owner said that
he has seen six different accidents at that location in just the past
three months. That man is now collecting signatures from other residents
in an attempt to pressure city officials to change the design of the intersection.
The investigation into this particular accident is ongoing. Drugs and alcohol
are not thought to have been factors in the collision. Prosecutors have
not indicated whether they intend to file charges in the matter.
Family members say that the 20-year-old victim had a positive attitude
and loved to ride motorcycles. A group of area residents gathered at the
site of the motorcycle accident on the evening of March 23. Community
members have reportedly been providing support for the man's father
and brother.
Victims who have suffered the loss of a loved one because of a negligent
driver or faulty intersection design may benefit from the assistance of
a California personal injury attorney. These professionals may provide
additional information about filing civil suits against municipalities
for maintaining a dangerous intersection. Inattentive drivers and other
negligent parties should be held accountable for their involvement in
such fatal motorcycle accidents.
