Hit-and-run accident critically injures California motorcyclist

Hit-and-run car accidents are among the most devastating of all traffic accidents, as the victim is often left without medical assistance. To make matters worse, hit-and-runs are often committed against pedestrians, bicyclists or motorcyclists, as these accidents do little damage to the offending vehicle, allowing the perpetrator to escape quickly and without fear of pursuit.

This was apparently the case in a recent accident in Buena Park, a suburb of Los Angeles. A motorcyclist was traveling northbound through an intersection when another vehicle, an eastbound Chevy Silverado, entered the intersection without stopping. The motorcyclist tried to brake, but he flipped over forward, coming to rest in the middle of the road. The Silverado did not stop, running over the motorcyclist as it drove away.

Fortunately, witnesses were on hand to provide medical assistance to the injured motorcyclist. He was taken to UCI Medical Center with unspecified but critical injuries.

In this case, as in so many hit-and-run accidents, the victim faces a long recovery and all the obstacles that come with it. Apart from the physical and emotional pain, victims of motorcycle accidents are often unable to work for extended periods of time, leading to possible financial difficulties. Normally, the perpetrator of a hit-and-run accident can be made accountable for the financial damages through a personal injury lawsuit. In this particular case, however, police will have to first identify the guilty party.

Witnesses say the perpetrator was driving a black or dark gray Silverado pickup with tinted windows. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
