YouTube Personality Dies in Electric Scooter Crash

In a tragic accident in London, a YouTube personality died after the electric scooter she was riding collided with a truck. According to The Guardian, this was “the first fatal collision involving an e-scooter in Britain.”

The 35-year-old woman was popular on social media, with over 350,000 subscribers to her channel. She posted videos about various subjects with a humorous spin, including sex, gender, and sexuality, amassing over 137 million views since 2007.

The woman had planned to attend a mental-health meetup on the day of her death. Her fatal accident was announced on Instagram, stating that they were reaching out to her viewers to let them know she had passed away.

Common Causes of Electric Scooter Accidents

In the U.S., electric scooters first started appearing on city streets in 2018. They were purported to be a convenient and eco-friendly way for riders to get from one place to another. Although there are benefits to this type of transportation, they pose health and safety risks to riders, pedestrians, and drivers.

E-scooters can travel up to 15 mph, and their small size makes them difficult to see. Because of this, collisions involving these devices are becoming more common, and, as a result, many individuals are suffering serious injuries to their heads, arms, feet, wrists, ankles, and legs. In some instances, an electric scooter accident could result in death.

Various factors could lead to an e-scooter accident, including:

  • Rider behaviors – riding too fast on sidewalks, not paying attention to surrounding areas, using the scooter with more than one rider, storing them in an unsafe manner
  • Equipment malfunctions – defects with handlebars, tires, batteries, and/or wheel locks
  • Road conditions – raised areas, heavy rain, construction areas, potholes
  • Driver errors – distracted driving, swerving to avoid scooter riders
