Verdict Awarded in Low Speed Accident for Victim Who Suffered Head Injury

The defendant drove, at low speed, into the rear end of Mr. Saenz' car. Mr. Saenz, a self-employed 43-year-old video producer, struck his head during the impact and was never the same afterward. The defendant's insurer only offered $10,000 of its $100,000 insurance limits to settle the case, claiming that Mr. Saenz had only sustained minor soft tissue damage. A Pasadena jury believed the evidence that the plaintiff had suffered a brain injury and awarded him a total of $857,806. The insurance company settled for the full amount of the verdict, despite its lesser insurance limits.
